2013: A Photo Odyssey

Grose Vale Twilight

The sun had only moments before set behind the Blue Mountains, but the countryside around my house was bathed in golden afterglow, and the grass (which only a week before had been crunchy brown stalks) was now almost luminous green.

In the distance, behind the windmill and trees, are 4 and a half million people spread out in the Greater Sydney Basin. Sydney is so spread-out, and the suburbs so treed that it's easy to forget that I live on the edge of a world city. That I could drop every kiwi into the basin and there would still be 200,000 left over in change.
