Sacred…

………………..Waters - Riwaka Resurgence.

Today is International Holy Well Day - thank you Freespiral for this information. This is the nearest we have locally to a Holy Well so I am tagging it IHWD20.

The source of the Riwaka River can be found flowing from the base of the Takaka Hill at the end of  Riwaka Valley Road and within Kahurangi National Park, Motueka, NZ.

The resurgence is known as Te Puna o Riuwaka by local Māori, Te Ātiawa and Ngāti Rārua, and is considered wāhi tapu (sacred). Traditionally, Māori would not eat or swim at the site, and the waters were considered to have powerful healing properties.

Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s colourful male chaffinch.
