The Call 1914

Up early today as I wanted to get to the Castle for when it opened. The Scottish War Memorial is held within the castle grounds and is free to enter. This weeks blip challenge is "Duty" so I had in mind a photo of the memorial as it represents the men and women who have died while doing their duty during the First World War.

To visit the memorial you just need to fill in a form at the visitors centre. I was told that photos weren't permitted in the Memorial but I checked and was told I would be able to take photos of the outside. The memorial itself is just up the Lang staircase.

After taking a few photos I was asked by a member of the castle staff why I was taking the photos, I duly explained it was for the challenge and he went away seemingly happy. A few moments later he came back and asked what website it was for and I replied. He again went away seemingly happy.
After a few minute he returned and informed me that I wasn't able to take photos of the outside of the Memorial as I was using the Memorial free pass. This apparently only allows you access to the Memorial and does not include the right to take photos of the outside. Seemingly they are happy for you to take photos of the outside providing you have paid your £14 entrance fee for the privilege!!!

This is a photo of the Scots American War Memorial in Princess Street garden. It was given to the Scottish people by the Americans to pay tribute to the Scott's who lost their lives in the First World War.

It was called "The Call 1914", and it was erected in 1927 and shows a kilted infantryman looking towards Castle Rock. Behind the main statue is a frieze showing queues of men answering the call by following a kilted pipe band.

This will be my entry into the challenge for the word "Duty"
