FLAG DAY
Today is Flag Day in the US, which honors the adoption of this symbol in
1777. The flag has changed over the years, but this version has been
in use since Alaska & Hawaii became our last states.
This is not a federal or national holiday, but some state are famous for their parades. This year, I hope there are ZOOM parades. Most folks hang their flag in a prominent place to commemorate this day, like we did in my Blip.
I have noticed, during the Iraq War, many Middle Eastern immigrant business owners displayed flags prominently, maybe to show their
loyalty. During the last few years, our president has threatened & denigrated all immigrants, both legal & illegal. Now there are many more businesses displaying the flag, in even quirky ways (SEE EXTRA).
Now even naturalized US citizens sometimes feel unsafe.
I am hoping this time next year, Trump & his thugs will be a distant memory; & we will have a new president who restores the honor associated with this flag. Let's hope there will be parades everywhere to celebrate.
