Cobblestone Slope
Another stroll into town today, and another visit to the old cobblestone slope I discovered yesterday. There's an intriguing plaque on the wall to the right of this, saying that the stones at the base of the wall have been identified as Roman from 200AD, and formed part of the the original outer walls of the town (Northwich). In fact, there is a street in the twon centre called Watling Street, but I doubt that Northwich was actually on the route of the original Roman road, which passed some way South of here.
Nonetheless, I liked this cobbled slope. The cobbles themselves aren't Roman, of course, but I daresay the route of the path up the side of the Roman wall might well date from that period. It's rather steep, and I certainly wouldn't like to try to use it in icy weather!
Damn, it's cold today ...and an early start for work tomorrow (4:50am) :0(
Then two days in London - should be fun!
