Crossing the border
At Heathrow it was pleasantly well staffed and masks a-plenty. We got through security in 10mins. The man at the desk yelled to his colleague „I haven’t been told anything, if they get sent back we‘ll know tomorrow!“ which was less than reassuring.
Lacking the exact perfect combination of documents to enter Germany we planned for every situation, if one doesn’t go through the other returns too. The German police are not to be trifled with and in past experiences hate long winded explanations in favour of the rules, which are The Rules. We gathered all the evidence we had, rent contracts, library cards and so on. A woman told her children „don’t say anything at this Next bit“ to which they responded „why??“.
The border guards saw us separately, but it was very easy-going for us. We saw some people who were coming for just two weeks having more problems. Amazed at how easily it had gone, we decided to prank our housemates telling them we would need to quarantine in a hotel and return tomorrow. This led to much delightment when we entered, followed by a massive veg lasagne and tres leches (a moist sponge made with evaporated milk, condensed milk and regular milk).
