Swaldedale stepping stones at Reeth .

Today we travelled further afield than since before Covid struck . We met up with a good friend for a walk in Swaledale near Reeth . The journey over the moors from Kirkby Stephen to Keld was spectacular if a little nerve wracking on such narrow, undulating  roads .
We took a walking route through an SSI for ground nesting  birds and saw lots of curlew. We also saw oyster catchers and wheatear along the way plus a clutch of grouse chicks. At the end of the walk Bramble  swam in the river while we watched sand martins flying back and forth from their nests . We travelled back a different , slightly less challenging route which took in views of the Ribblehead viaduct and the summit  of Inglebourgh. It was lovely to spend time with an old friend who we shared a house with in our student days , She  knows the names of lots of birds and flowers so we have a few more under our belt, hopefully not forgotten by morning.
