When you see a couple of tress (in a line) 'stranded' in the middle of a field it tell you, almost certainly, that an ancient hedge has been drubbed out. Quite possible as a farm has switch from farming livestock to growing crops.

This is but a typical example - the 1898 OS map shows there to have been a hedge-line here.
