Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Lazy Sunday

I decided that I couldn't be bothered getting up and going to the pool this morning as I am intending going to the Commie Pool more often, ie most days, I don't need to swim at the weekend as well. Mind you, the Commie Pool was closed for a competition this weekend, otherwise I might have gone, such was the pleasure last time.

No, I headed off to the duck pond, calling in to get a few baps on the way. I took the usual dozens hundreds of photos of gulls and deleted most of them. I have deleted more photos of gulls than most folks' total photos taken!

I carried my new tripod. Just because I could. It's in a bag, so it looks like I've got a few arrows, but have forgotten my bow. It would have been no use at all, as the wind was whipping up the pond at times, and I could hear it howling in the the trees above.

There are always a few folk feeding the birds, but sometimes they chose silly places, like in amongst the trees, so the gulls can't get a swoop in. But the ducks can. Maybe that's the idea. There were a few tufted ducks, but they don't really get a look in with the more brazen birds. They are so cute to watch though.

Chose this one of Mr Duck, as I liked his chubby cheeks and the sun just caught him.

Back home in time to watch the rugby. Well done Italy. Three good matches over this first weekend.

Which reminds me. Yesterday I got a handwritten letter from the President of Scottish Rugby, who 'shares my concerns about the unsporting behaviour of the Murrayfield crowd when Dan Carter was kicking' back in November. I'm impressed that all the high heid yins that I wrote to took the time to reply to me, and one person even rang me.

This time next week we'll be in London. We're taking the bus, which might sound crazy, but it isn't.

* The bus takes you right in to the centre, not out at an airport, costing a fortune to get in to the city.
* It's cheap.
* You turn up 10 minutes before the bus leaves, not a couple of hours.
* You can have as much hand luggage as you want - I can bring my DSLR. And maybe my tripod.
* It's cheap.
* With a couple of stops, it's quite a pleasant trip.

With Italy on such form, I fear they might as well write 'Scotland' on the Wooden Spoon again now. Hope I'm proved wrong...
