Vintage Liberty Lawn

Every birthday and Christmas, my daughter asks me to make her something. I thought I would make her a cushion for her birthday, which is today. She loves Liberty Lawn fabric.
In the early 1970s we lived in Gibraltar and there was a fabulous fabric ‘shop’ run by two sisters, from their house. They had two rooms with wonderful fabrics in. Initially you would be invited to browse in the first room, which had quite nice fabrics. As they got to know you and thought you were worthy enough, you were invited to browse in their second room which was like an Aladdin’s cave of exquisite fabrics. They had Swiss pique cottons, Devore velvet, beautiful Viyella and poplins and real Liberty tana lawn. I bought enough Liberty lawn to make a shirt. I never got around to using the fabric until last week, when I decided to make a cushion. So this is proper 1970s vintage fabric. To finish it, I decided to add three buttons that had come off a pinafore dress I had made for her when she was little and had kept.
She loves the cushion. I loved making it. It was a real trip down memory lane.
