Not Your Grandfather’s Axe
This is a modern version of a very old tool — the carving axe. I would have called it a hatchet, but what do I know?
I’m getting ready to do some green woodworking. Green wood is wood that has not been dried, and therefore has a high moisture content. It’s a lot easier to carve than dry wood.
The latest issue of Fine Woodworking has an article describing how to carve bowls — see extra. I’ll give it a try when my bent gouges show up, assuming I can find some green wood.
