Sturmey Archer 3 Speed Hub Refurbished

I spent the whole afternoon cleaning and re-greasing my Raleigh "Twenty" 3 speed hub.
The built up layers of dried oil varnished the exterior of the hub such that solvents were of little use in removing it.
It was a tedious job to gently scrape through the layers of varnish coating every nook and cranny to expose the bright metal below.
All that oil the original owner lovingly put in the hub kept the inside of the unit working perfectly; the bearings looked like they are factory fresh.
The bonus is the built up varnish protected the outside of the hub so that it is nearly pristine after 48 years.
The spokes and rim will be refurbished next.
