HAPPY JUNETEENTH!!!

A lavender poppy for celebrating the day ALL the slaves were finally emancipated...a date that most history books for years never mentioned...I never had heard of this date untio a few years ago...It was 2 1/2 years after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation that a union general finally went to Texas and let the enslaved African Ameicans there sitll in bondage know that this had happened and they were free Americans now.

Institutions such as the Smithsonian, the Henry Ford Museum and others have begun sponsoring Juneteenth-centered activities. In recent years, a number of local and national Juneteenth organizations have arisen to take their place along side older organizations - all with the mission to promote and cultivate knowledge and appreciation of African American history and cultur
