Volcanic wonderland!

This is a stretch of the Tongariro crossing in New Zealand, said to be one of the worlds best day walks. Unfortunately the day we picked to complete the walk wasn't the best. We started optimistically but quickly the visibility was down to 10m, the winds up to 100km/h and then the rain kicked in for good measure. We were following some experienced looking hikers so we decided it would be fine to continue as long as they did. When they turned back we quickly followed! It was still possible to gauge how impressive the place is, this picture shows people walking straight through a flat area of a volcano crater.
