... as in what's the story * behind these red roses that had been carefully positioned and left. 

I encountered them on one of my new regular town walks - this one takes in River Tummell followed by Bobbin Wood. 

Planning a longer walk tomorrow, not least because the forecast for the rest of the week and next week is rain :-(
