Pulling the wool over our eyes ....

Another day of this and that.
Made a start on hanging the plastic sheets round the silage pit walls. The walls are made of hundreds of railway sleepers that came from the Borders railway when Mr Beeching’s cuts closed it in 1969. To make it air tight for the silage we use the plastic sheets that were on top of the pit last year around the walls this year- recycling at its cheapest ! Got one side done , which was quite enough spider man type antics for me for one day.
Took Littlemiss , the collie and terrier and headed up the hill to see if we could get the electric fences to work. The first problem we found was 2 fallen trees over the fence on the hill herd’s patch. So will need to got back with a chainsaw tomorrow.
Did get the power to come down a different route eventually. Also found out my pliers aren’t as insulated as I thought as I got a good 4000 volt belt through them ! A bout of swearing followed fairly quickly afterwards .
Mrs F still in a “clearing out your office “ mood. Came across these wool lines from 1971. The average price was 19 p per lb or 42p/ kg
This year due the covid 19 and the collapse of everything they have decided to pay an average of 32p / Kg for last years wool and we will get nothing for this years clip until this time next year.
So not only was the wool worth 10p/ kg more 49 years ago, but labour costs and everything else would have been a fraction of today’s costs. That’s progress for you !
