Goodbye to Adam
What a hot day today, a real stinker at 32C. I took water on my morning walk for Xena as there have been a few reports about dogs collapsing in this heat, something I don't usually have to do.
More sadness today as Adam left to go back to his home in Cambridge. When the boys first came home at the start of lockdown over 3 months ago, it was quite an adjustment to get used to having five adults living in the house again and coping with the meals and food shortages. But we soon got into the swing of things and now that Adam has left to go back we are all feeling very sad and will miss him so much. It was also the first time Adam had a chance to get to know Xena properly and she loved spending time with him, sitting right next to him on the sofa as he was working on his computer - she will miss him so much too. Adam has been working hard on his paper for this term's research, and he has now completed it. We will see him again in 2.5 weeks time when we all go to Devon and after that break he will return to work in the laboratory in Cambridge.
Meriel made another delicious banana loaf today, it is gluten free and a very healthy one with no sugar and is unbelievably good.
Gavin's mother's funeral will be on Saturday - in South Africa funerals are conducted soon after one passes away. The church is organising a link to the service on Youtube, so our family and Gavin's brother and his family in Canada can all watch it (the time differences will work for both of our families, though not for his cousin in New Zealand) Gavin's cousin will read out Gavin's eulogy for him. We will have a memorial service next year when we can safely travel there again.
