Reopening

I guess I am not alone in having mixed feelings about pubs and other businesses reopening.  In other countries, where infection rates have fallen very low, reopening seems to be leading to significant rises in Covid cases.  In the UK, infection rates are still quite high. I am going to continue to be very careful.

A first listen to Paul Thorn's 2012 album What the Hell Is Going On? - favourite track Bull Mountain Bridge.

Neo-Expressionism sounds promising! It developed in the 1970s and 80s, characterised by style rather than subject. Works were often dramatic "statements" in strong colours., using aggressive brushwork and thick paint to give an appearance of spontaneity.

Georg Baselitz was one practitioner. He took to hanging paintings upside-down, to emphasise the brushwork rather than the subject matter. Examples of such works include Die Mädchen von Olmo II (1981) and The Abgar Head (1984). I must say I am sceptical. When I look at these paintings I don't think "oh, look at the superb brushwork;" I think "er, excuse me, it is upside down."  Rather than drawing attention to a feature, he is distracting the viewer (or at least some viewers.)
