Dark-green
Pete and I had an excellent visit to Bedford Purlieus NNR this afternoon, where the main glade was full of Dark-green Fritillary and Marbled White butterflies, not to mention a very large number of hunting Emperor dragonflies - we saw one catch a butterfly and deftly remove the wings before consuming the body. Lots of good plant species too, including thriving populations of Lady's-mantle and Long-stalked Crane's-bill.
We held a Father's Day barbecue in the evening, and were joined by Chris and Lizzy. Alex had already been to a barbecue earlier in the afternoon and was somewhat tipsy, so he and Chris cooked together. As usual, a splendid feast, enjoyed on a perfect summer night.
