Vegetation Management
There is nothing like watching a herd of 400 goats to lift the spirits! This bunch traveled about 150 miles to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the wildlife refuge in town. There are a couple more portraits in the Extras, as well as a long shot that gives you an idea of the whole set-up. I love the way one of them is daintily holding down a branch with his cloven foot.
One of the goatherds could have talked all afternoon about her charges: there are five different species here, the small black ones with no horns are good for milk and making cheese, the ones with the green tags are eight months old; some have white bodies with brown or black heads, others are solid brown. And there are eight sheep that travel with the group. And a shepherd dog.
"And look, mommy, look! That little one is giving the big one with the beard a piggyback ride..." Oops.
