Green and red

A breezy day which started with a dog walk.  Just Merlin and I today.  We got rather a soaking as the rain came down more persistently and heavy than was forecast.  It was actually lovely to be out in the wind and to feel the rain on my face.

Then it was to the allotment to do some much needed weeding and staking of the tomatoes.  I also finished making the arch I have constructed to grow the grape vines over.  The vines were on the plot when I got it and although I doubt I will use the grapes, the vines should provide some much needed shelter from the weather - be it sun, wind and/or rain!  Whilst I was there, Andy and Merlin came down to see me - a lovely surprise.

The afternoon has been spent topping and tailing gooseberries.  I have lots!  I've only two gooseberry bushes at the allotment but one of them was filled with fruit and I have a whole large tray full of gooseberries.  I'll stew and freeze some but with the remainder I'll probably make jam or chutney.  I have happy memories of making gooseberry chutney when living in my first cottage in Scotland, having been given a bag of the fruit from a work colleague.

I hope your day has gone as you wanted it to.  Take care and all the very best.
