Saved By Gooseberry

The gooseberries are close to ripeness but not ready for picking, though I had picked the lowest-hanging to prevent their dragging on the ground during the wild weather and collected the fallers.

These were used today, by a mixture of calculation  amalgamation of recipes, alchemy and good luck, to save strawberry jam that refused to set. I have to say that comparing recipes in the American system of measuring the like of gooseberries and strawberries by volume (cups), trying to equate to pounds and ounces and compare with metric, does take mental agility (and plenty of paper and pencil) to new levels.

Anyway it seems to have worked, and I have more gooseberries to rescue the rest of the failed jam.
