Fallen flowers.
We had huge thunderstorms and heavy rain last night and we made the national news (not us personally, just the weather in our region). Not too much damage here, but lots of blooms from the trumpet vine fell to ground as did the lovely yellow rose that only flowered yesterday (extra). Talking of yesterday, I was drilling holes to put up a curtain pole in the dining room. The first one went well, 8mm plug, 7mm drill bit, perfect fit. Second drill into the wall encountered bad plaster and produced a 25mm ragged abyss, oops. I mixed up some fast set mortar and plastered the fitting in, but this morning it was too crumbly and just fell out again. So I went to the local hardware store searching for that two part epoxy resin stuff that you knead in your hand and which sets hard in 10 minutes. They didn't have any, but they did have some lovely social distancing measures in place with very nice coloured arrows on the floor. I did find some Isopon, which is what we used in the 1970s to glue our rust-ridden Ford Cortinas back together. I mixed it up and pushed it into the void. With only 5 minutes working time there were a few sweaty moments smoothing it in and gently setting the screw into place. It set very quickly and when I tested the strength by suspending a friendly two tonne elephant that just happened to be passing by, it held firm. The curtain pole was a dawdle after that. In the afternoon, Naomi and I set to work cleaning the winter crud from the windows, which is what you do on your 34th wedding anniversary, isn't it? P and J came by for drinks and Toggy turned up to have a look at our malfunctioning Fiat Panda. The car is in great order, but electrical maladies and the cost to get the main dealer to programme a new ECU my well spell the end.
