Candle of Waiting for Women Bishops
Catching the morning sun falling on to it this morning, our Candle of Waiting will not give light until the first woman bishop is consecrated.
I walked into St Hilda's Warley Woods for morning prayer today to find the dawning sun falling across it and the wooden cross in the distance on the altar.
As an Anglican church community we have commited ourselves to pray for the 108 women priests serving the people of Birmingham Diocese, We will only light this candle, on the chancel steps, when Synod wisely and generously approves a measure that will lead (soon) to the consecration of women as bishops and the care of all who disagree so fundamentally. We pray for a church that will build loving and trusting relationships between people of opposing views When we have lost the dependance on always needing to be right, then we will grow into people who can wait patiently and with hope.
