I think we are ready for tomorrow

She passed away on the last day of May, of age. Tomorrow will be the first funeral where we can have more than five people present. So the guys were here digging the grave this morning. And I’ve been in the office, my study, writing out the words that I need to use tomorrow for the memorial service and the committal.

It’s a beautiful day today I thought as I stood here looking out across the Prairie and the cemetery. Just enough wind to keep the mosquitoes off, and not too hot.

This whole area was settled by many Swedes who were leaving their homeland for new opportunities. That was 100 to 150 years ago.

Before that there were the original inhabitants who moved around this area. First Nations people. There are still trails through this area of the paths that they made years and years and years ago. Old Indian trails that they would follow as they moved from one location to another.

Certainly not as much known history here as many of you experience. But the history here is close to the surface, close to present day. It doesn’t take much to imagine the first Nations people moving across the prairies with their tribes and their horses and livestock and certainly their families. Just look out across the horizon, close your eyes, and you can see them.

Hasn’t changed that much in 150 years.
