Engineer Mountain

Engineer Mountain, an inelegant name for a majestic, magnificent peak surrounded by equally royal lofty company.

We start our climb at 10,664 feet and quit at the pass (not the summit), approximately 12,460 feet = 3,798 meters.  The air is thin to begin, but we have been in Durango for almost 48 hours so we are fairly acclimated to the height, given that Purgatory's elevation, where we were yesterday, is 9,000 feet plus.  Even so, we stop often to catch our breath and drink some water.  Believe it or not, the air is very dry.

We are right at the bottom of the clouds up here and the rain that chases us down is filled with ice.

Glen circuits without incidence.  Tonight there is salve on the brush burns of yesterday, ice on the knees and ankles of today, and a smile on the faces of those who have been granted such moments of grace.

Extras:: more views at the peak including Glen ahead of me.  We were challenged with sleet, snow and rain on our way back down.  Thunder provided the soundtrack for our descent when Glen wasn't playing his recorder..
