Alscot Park House

Another Sunday, another walk, another old property. Am I in a rut?
Today we parked by St. Helen's Church in the village of Clifford Chambers and went across fields, skirted a copse, and headed for Preston-on-Stour.
A lovely village with half timbered properties dating back to the mid 1600's.
After leaving Preston we headed through a small wood to Atherstone-on-Stour and then continued on back to Clifford over open farmland. With a few detours it was about 5 miles.
The walk provided fine views across open countryside which included some of Alscot Park a country house which has belonged to the West family since 1747 and which is set in approximately 4000 acres.
After we had finished the walk we headed back home whereupon J made fruit scones using a National Trust recipe. Her sister and brother-in-law had walked with us and I must say the scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam, and homemade blackberry jam, went down very easily, accompanied by a pot of Ceylon tea.
Tomorrow Charlecote Park National Trust beckons!
