Small is Beautiful
If you thought yesterdays little narcissus was small, think again! The flowers of Dionysia tapetodes are just 5mm across. A well grown plant will produce a mat of flowers that completely obscures the tiny rosettes of leaves. Native to Central Asia, northeast Iran, central Afghanistan and west Pakistan, where it grows on rock faces and under overhanging cliffs, this is a plant that will not survive outside in a maritime climate. It's a miracle that I have kept it alive for so long!
The genus Dionysia includes some of the most coveted and beautiful alpine plants. Regularly seen at Alpine Garden Society and Scottish Rock Garden Club shows, when grown to perfection specialists it can be a show-stopper.
