Miss Piggy
Gave MrM his third 'lockdown' haircut this morning. I found it quite nerve-wracking, but he was pleased with the result. Phew!
Another trip to Kelso this afternoon to fetch our 'click and collect' shopping, then a socially distanced cup of tea in the 'yard with Jacqui, when she came to pick up her creme fraiche.
We pass the field where this adorable pig lives quite regularly - it's on the way to the Ingram Valley (see below). She's obviously used to people, and very sociable - if you slow the car, she comes running across the field to say hello! Presumably she and her friend (a huge, pink pig) are pets, as they've both been there since before we moved to the area.
And a rant...
It was a bit blustery, but we decided to take a picnic tea to the Ingram Valley, and walk up to Linhope Spout to stretch our legs. It's a lovely spot, a short drive (~12 miles) from home, and on several previous visits we've never seen more than a couple of dozen people. But over the May Bank Holiday, after Boris so kindly gave permission for people to drive as far as they like for exercise, hundreds of people flocked there, and not for exercise. They lit fires, had barbecues, and left the area littered with food waste and alcohol bottles, not to mention human waste. Usually, you can drive up to Hartside Farm at the head of the Valley, park on the verge, and walk to the waterfall, a 3-mile round trip that takes you in to the hills. The parking spot is also the starting point for lots of good walks in the area. But today there was a large, light-up road sign at the bottom of the valley, stating "No available parking from this point". So that was it - we stopped the car there, and ate our picnic with a view of the river. No big deal today, as by then as the weather was much worse than had been forecast - very windy, with horizontal rain. But it would seem that the actions of the idiots who came from a distance and care not one jot for the countryside have spoiled it for those who walk in the hills and leave nothing but footprints...
