I thought I was going to have a tough ride again this morning as the wind seemed a lot stronger than yesterday but for once I had a tail wind for most of my ride. It was nice to be pushed by the wind instead of pushing against it.

The miserable weather was just what I needed to finish off the garage door. I was amazed how long it took me to paint the metal frame and struts which support the aluminium skin. I started at nine and just managed to finish at six. The problem was there were so many nooks and crannies and I had to be careful not to get the paint on the aluminium. As I was paining on galvanised steel I used a cellulose grey etching primer which really needs to be sprayed on as I did with the Bentley. However in the end it did go on well but needed two coats. Fortunately it dried rather quickly so I could do the two coats in the day. The primer has a good matt finish which I will leave as is without adding a top coat. I did have a bit of a mishap as when looking up as I painted the top of the door as a dollop of paint fell dead centre into my eye. Boy did it sting. Fortunately I wear contact lenses and the blob as far as I could make out hit my left contact lens square on. The split second it hit I remembered the warning on all paint tins which says if you get paint in your eye wash it out immediately. So I rushed to the down stairs bathroom put the plug in the sink to save my contact lense popped it out and held my head under the tap with water pouring into my eye. Slowly the pain ebbed away and I was left with a bloodshot eye. I wear hard semi permeable lenses and I thought it would be ruined but with a little bit of rubbing with neat shampoo the paint was removed. I carried on painting with just one lense in and after an hour my eye had settled down and I could wear the lense again. It was worth the extra effort to paint the frame as the door looks good and is in keeping with the rest of the garage. I must endeavour to kept it clean and tidy in the future as I can't have nice cars parked in a messy garage anymore. Again it's so nice to have the time to do this work. I need some nice weather now so I clean out the black garage. I don't think it needs painting just a good jet wash to get rid of the thick layers of spider webs. While I was cleaning the debris off the roof I thought that I will repaint the corrugated bitumen roof panels with an aluminium solar reflective paint which I have of course ordered off eBay together with a soft broom to apply it. My jobs still seem to be stacking up and never ending. It's all stuff I'd have done over the last ten years had we not travelled so much. Having said that the travelling was and will again at sometime be great fun.
