Swallows and Amazons Forever!
They found, like many explorers before them, that somehow, in their absence, they had got into trouble at home.

KaliBug's February Challenge: 3) Something Borrowed
I'm not sure whether Baby Hannah's Mummy remembers that I have these. They were her mother's when she was a child. I borrowed them years ago, and they're still on my bookshelf. Oops! Sorry R! I promise I've been looking after them - keeping them out of the sun, dusting them and even reading them from time to time.
I love the Swallows and Amazons series of books, and have done since I was about ten. I've read most of them (all the ones pictured) but there are still a couple that I haven't. The early ones are the best though, I think. I reread them often, particularly when I'm stressed out or feeling ill. They are great escapist reading and I will never tire of them.
Here is a clip from the film for those who don't know about these books. This is the first time that the Swallows (brothers and sisters on holiday in the Lakes, sailing their dinghy Swallow and camping on Wild Cat Island) meet the Amazons (local pair of sisters) and their sailing dinghy Amazon. I think this kind of life must be every child's dream! I hope that children still dream like this, anyway. The books are definitely a product of their time (1930s), as is the film which is the same age as me!
