Field margin
We intended an early walk. That went out of the window when we slept in rather longer than we expected. Why worry?
We went out later in the morning, avoiding and showers and we’re back in reasonable time for lunch.
A good three hours at the allotment this afternoon. Clearing up the peas which have been a complete loss and the rest of the broad beans which weren’t much better. On the positive side, some nice beetroot, courgettes and the first French beans were very welcome.
Had an altercation with the chair of the Environmental Committee of the Parish Council who have decided to impose a hosepipe ban on the allotment despite South Eastern Water not imposing one. It’s a long story. I’m not pleased at all. The council could have gone about it in a much more inclusive and consultative way.
The field margins around here can be very productive as it is in this case. Previously, this field was cultivated up to the left hand side of this shot. Now there’s a great margin for wildlife which has taken every advantage of the opportunity.
