Alley Art
This painting on the wall of St Luke's Lane - an alleyway I pass regularly on my way up to Coroner's Court - has captured my attention a few times but is often obstructed by parked cars. Today, though, I could get a clear shot.
I believe that this is intended as a tribute to Canada's fallen soldiers by its artist. The "Highway of Heroes" refers to a stretch of Highway 401 between Glen Miller Road in Trenton and the intersection of the Don Valley Parkway and Highway 404 in Toronto. According to Wikipedia, this length of the highway is often traveled by a convoy of vehicles carrying a dead soldier's body, with his or her family, from CFB Trenton to the coroner's office at the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto, which explains the location of this urban art in the alleyway behind the coroner's office.
There are few "heroes" emerging in the grim story which is unfolding on a daily basis in the Coroner's Court. But I do have great admiration for the five women serving as the jury, who have been very attentive, respectful and engaged in the harrowing task which has been assigned to them.
