Isolated No More
Since the beginning of April Zihuatanejo has been effectively cutoff from the world. Tour buses were banned and flights were severely curtailed. All hotels, restaurants, and beaches were closed, so even if visitors could have traveled here via commercial bus or twice weekly flight, there was nowhere for them to stay, eat, or recreate. This isolation kept our coronavirus cases to about 100, but as of yesterday things are going to change. Today there were three tour buses in the lot that has been vacant since 3 April. We understand more will soon follow, as will daily air travel (and a once a week flight from the U.S.) along with the reopening of hotels, restaurants, and beaches. A rise in cases is bound to result from tourism's rapid return, so we are taking advantage of that international flight on Saturday and escape town for three months.
