Sir Charles Napier

Our local pub became an up-market restaurant Sir Charles Napier very many years ago.  It's a pleasant 10 minute stroll across the fields from our house.  We used particularly to enjoy their foraging lunches, where the diners would troop round the countryside with a foraging expert and collect funghi or wild garlic, which the chef would then whip up in front of our eyes into a delicious lunch.  Sadly it's still closed with no sign of when it might reopen.  I hope your favourite local reopened today!

Just for the record, General Sir Charles Napier was a successful Victorian soldier who eventually became Commander-in-Chief in India.  There is a statue of him in Trafalgar Square (Ken Livingston tried but failed to get it removed) and the New Zealand town of Napier was named after him.  I am not aware of any association with this area.
