Reaching out

I get highly irritated when people use the phrase "reached out" instead of "phoned", "spoken to", "contacted" or "asked" etc. One reaches out to someone one does't know to provide services/supprt they need. One doesn't reach out if asking a colleague to show you how to do something or if one ask a friend if they are ok.

Reaching out to a glass of wine is, on the other hand, totally acceptable.

Met with colleagues in the park this afternoon. Take aways for supper while watching Independance Day as we do every 4th of July.
