Tombstones

When I was a child, my best friend told me you could lift the lids up on the box-like tombs and see the body underneath. I was always a bit worried it might be true. Much to our dismay, she emigrated with her parents at age 16 to New Zealand. She came back to live in Germany because she was a violinist and wanted to play in the Berlin Philharmonic. We wrote to each other through the years but unfortunately she died age 47. I’m so lucky to have lived 30 years longer than her up to now. I still think of her.
