Giant lilies
These lilies are three feet tall and they spread at an alarming rate. They grow in one corner of the area that we are developing as a cottage garden. At the moment they are well enough confined to their corner, but they are corms and they spread out and split naturally, so we need to keep them under control. Today I wheelbarrowed two tonnes of gravel over to the poolside and tamped and rodded it into the voids that opened up over the winter between the concrete pool sides and the surrounding earth. The pool was just installed last year and we expected some settlement, just not as much as this. Anyway, the job is done and we can now start levelling with sand so that we can get the paving slabs laid again. Naomi dug borders, planted a rambling rose, started on the annual painting of the garden furniture and collapsed, like me, afterwards. We went for an evening drive though Martel and Carrenac. The lettuce seeds have germinated, and all the other seedlings are doing well. There is a lot of watering to do morning and evening.
