It took a good couple of years of cycling most days before I got the saddle on my 5-speed Pashley properly 'broken in' so that it felt really comfortable. It was worth it though.

Took bike in for her annual going-over yesterday. Couldn't believe the difference it made when I collected her this morning. We positively flew up the - albeit not very steep - hills on the way to work.

Bloke in the bike shop reckoned that breaking in a Brooks saddle is a bit like breaking in your first pair of Doc Martens.
