Sally Mair - Loving life

Roses

I don't think I've ever seen so many roses on one head, I've counted over 30 buds on this one stem, hope it can take the weight. This is one of the anniversary roses from the girls for our Ruby wedding 5 years ago. The whole plant, which is a standard rose has well over 100 buds. Simply beautiful. I'm going to get some advice on pruning it this year. I thought I'd been pretty harsh with it in the Autumn, but clearly not! I'm worried that the branches are too long and heavy, but it is a sight to behold
Today started well. On 11th May I started couch to 5k, today I finished. Nobody is more surprised than I am. See extra. I realised as I started the final week of the 9 that at the speed I was doing it was going to take more than the allotted 30 minutes to do 5k, so I upped my runs even more to finish within the 9 week schedule . It took me 47 minutes, but today I ran non stop for that time and covered 5k or 3 miles. Never in my life have I run before so I am absolutely thrilled and pleased to have done it before Wednesday, which is my 66th birthday!
I feel I've made good use of the lockdown period and my daily exercise and according to K, increased stamina and improved lung function is one of the best ways to beat the virus.
Other than that and basking in a rosy glow I delivered some bean plants and helped a friend complete the paperwork for her pension. Oh and I bought a pack of hot doughnuts from M&S and ate two of them!!!! I do miss cakes and buns and these were lovely. I did eat them 4 hours apart, so not quite so bad as it sounds!
A good day.
