5th of February - Runeberg day

Flagging day in Finland today because 5th of February was the birthday of Johan Ludwig Runeberg, the national poet of Finland.

While driving to work in the morning and listening to the radio, some young lady there said that today is the Runeberg day and that´s why we are flagging but does anyone know what has he done to get a day named to him. I asked the same question at work and the knowledge of this historic person was quite poor.

The thing mots of knew was Runeberg´s torte, a pastry his wife Fredrika is said to create and all the Finns are eating them now a lot.
