Silk Knot

I made myself a lightbox at the weekend to use for a specific commission (details to come), but thought I would make use of it for today's chosen topic - Jewellery.

The resulting lightbox photos are just staggering, I never realised how much of a difference it would make in comparison to taking pictures, say, on a window ledge (which is what I normally do).

The first major characteristic is the lack of dark patches, or any strong shadows in the picture - the focused lighting and infinite background do a great job of bouncing the light around the subject. Secondly, the colour reproduction and details seem a lot more true/natural; provided the white balance is set correctly. I didn't use a tripod in this case as the shutter speed was high enough not to require it but if I had, the clarity and sharpness would also have been heightened. Finally, the subject edge is clearly defined and clean allowing it to be extracted and used as graphics, if required.

Look out for more lightbox magic in my upcoming pictures, it will certainly come in useful for the next project I am planning! ;)
