The great escape!
Arrived back at the hospital this afternoon to find Rafi not in his bed, but sat in his new chair in the play room! I'm not sure Colin should have taken him so far ( its only across the corridor from the ward) without the portable suction machine, but he was fine and it was great to him there. He's been a bit more awake today and has been trying to squeeze hands which he hasn't really been able to do much since his second bleed.
Colin reported that Rafi sat up on the edge of the bed supported by the physios today and Colin was able to get a hug (always an emotional moment).
Rafi's friends Iona and Courtney visited today and got him up to date with the latest school gossip.
Kiera has printed of lots of photos to put around his bed space ( they make a nice talking point). We also made a little poster to encourage professionals (mainly doctors and phlebotomists ) who visit Rafi to 'do things' to him, to make eye contact with him and explain what they are doing and why.
It goes like this;
RAFI KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON. WHEN APPROACHING RAFI PLEASE FIRST GET EYE CONTACT WITH HIM, EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE, WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND WHY. RAFI IS VERY INQUISITIVE BUT SENSITIVE AND WOULD APPRECIATE AN EXPLANATION TO LESSEN HIS ANXIETY.MANY THANKS.
