I was warned by a friend that my lettuces would need protecting from blackbirds. Blackbirds? Seriously? OK - she knows what she's doing, never mind that I'm shocked how few birds there are in my garden.

2 I have an old mosquito net with holes big enough for mosquitos to do North Korean military parades through.
2 I have some bendy sticks left over from dead plants I have removed.
4 Sorry, blackbirds - I'll have to find some other way of getting you into the garden.

(I couldn't help thinking sadly about not being able to go to WOMAD this year to listen to music in the Siam Tent... Glad beyond anything I could imagine at the time that I went last year.)
