Captain and crew
What a walk! I thought that it was about 7 miles but it ended up as over 9!
Why you might ask?
Starting off from Elmley Castle(again) we walked along the bottom of Bredon Hill and across to Great Comberton which is where J was born and lived with her three sisters and brother during her formative years.
Of course J and her sister just had to walk around the village pointing everything out to us men. Then it was a detour across fields to the River Avon where we had a picnic lunch before heading back to the village. We saw a grass snake by the way swimming across the river and some fallow deer too.
From Great Comberton it was over to Little Comberton and again we were filled with reminisces about people they grew up with and houses which they had played at.
From there to Bricklehampton before we got to Netherton and from there back to Elmley Castle and all the way it was Uncle Ken lived there, Uncle Ron there., Aunty Daisy there, and dad worked there or they knew the people who used to live in that cottage.
They were so in their element and we just had to call at the pub in Elmley Castle for a well earned drink, which evoked further memories. In fact their parents first ever date was in the pub, The Queen Elizabeth, in 1946. Their dad worked on a farm there and their mother was in the land army but was actually from Dudley in the Black Country.
All fascinating stuff and it so pleased P and myself to see them remembering.
Afterwards we called at Lower Moor near Pershore to see another sister and family where we all sat in the garden catching up. All in all a wonderful day for everyone.
