A storm, some cleaning, three kittens and a cat.
In preparation for Larissa's sister Sarah arriving on Saturday, we've spent the entire day cleaning the place up. There was a thunderstorm last night which made a bit of a mess of the place; my piano was covered in sand this morning (it sits directly beneath the AC) and the back garden looked like a bomb had hit it.
Larissa was taking care of the back garden when she spotted a tiny little kitten poking its head out the gap underneath one of the plant pots. I lifted the pot out the way to discover there were actually three of them. We've never noticed them before, so I'm guessing that the storm last night forced them to take shelter in the relative safety of our garden.
Our initial reaction of course was to take them inside and look after them but before we did so we called a couple of people who we know are good with cats. The advice both times was to leave them where they were and check on them later. If they weren't being looked after then we'd have to start thinking about how we'd look after them until the vet opens on Saturday. Logic dictated that they looked fluffy and healthy enough (the one in the middle tried to bite my finger off when I couldn't resist a stroke) and the fact that their eyes were open suggested that they have managed to stay alive for a few weeks due to something or other.
As luck would have it, their mother (a previous blip entry funnily enough) turned up as soon as we were back inside (and out of harms way for her, presumably). She is always hanging around our house but never takes me up on my offer for a wee stroke.
We watched out the window as the three of them sprang about, playing and fighting and getting a good old clean from their Mum.
Unbelievably cute.
