Ball of steel

OK, the ball (two hanging basket frames wired together) may not be constructed of steel, but the title of “Balls of indeterminate metal” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, does it?!

However, this self-made protective ball represents a small victory for me in my ongoing battle with myself and the gang of jackdaws and starlings which seemed intent on ripping through any feed I offered up without consideration for the smaller birds.

I use this image as a literal example of the benefits of the art of reframing your perceptions. For those new to my ramblings……the feeder was initially hung up on its own, unprotected and exposed. Whilst it was initially met with the gratitude of a large variety of beautiful birds, it was quickly subsumed by many large, dark and overbearing jackdaws, which kept the small beautiful things away.

It needed to be looked at and reframed in such a way to let the good stuff in and keep the unwanted intruders out. A change of approach was needed, which was to alter what was being put out there and to wrap a protective layer around it.

It’s taken time, but those dark jackdaw clouds have grown bored and largely disappeared, leaving the small beautiful things with the time and space to return and nourish themselves.

Maybe this is a start of a new series of blips extracting meaning and metaphor from everyday items?
