Herne Bay Pierhead

The third pier at Herne Bay was opened in 1899. Most of the structure was destroyed by storms in 1978 leaving only the pier head isolated from the short shore stub. The many ambitious plans have been put forward to reconnect the head with the shore stub have come to nought. The shore end is now a traditional pier with shops, amusement and eating and drinking places lining the sides.

We were there today with Doreen, pushing her along the promenade and out onto the pier to enjoy the warm afternoon sun. Doreen enjoyed a 99 cone while we had a cup of tea and shared a scone. It was very pleasant sitting in the sun with families and couples wandering by. Good to be amongst people with the chatter and laughter of children adding to the atmosphere. Most people were taking care to socially distance and were alert to us pushing a wheelchair.

We ordered fish and chips when we got home so a day at the seaside was complete. It's nowhere near the theme for MonoMonday as hosted by 60plus (thank you.) It would have done for last week. However, the experience was very much a feeling of being together with other people. Had I looked at the theme before posting, I might have done better with the extra. Come to think about it there is a sort of togetherness with the wind turbines. I'm stretching it now.
