A type of hawk I think

For the past few days we have driven past a pair of very large birds in woods on the land where the holiday house we have rented stands. Today I remembered to put the camera inside the car before we left home and was rewarded by this shot of one of the birds.  I have no idea what bird it is, but think it may be some kind of hawk, certainly a bird of prey, possibly an eagle as it has a very large wing span.  Suggestions gratefully received!
