Pelargonium endlicherianum

Another unusual Pelargonium (geranium) species.  This one, raised from seed last year, originates from Turkey and Syria where is can be found in dry, rocky places.  It has thickened rhizomes which run at or near the surface, in the case of this young plant, it looks almost like the shoots emerge from a bulb.   Reputedly the hardiest pelargonium species, it's best grown in a cold greenhouse or alpine house where it can be protected from excess winter wet.   For scale, it's  petals are roughly the same size as your standard garden geranium.   Mature plants are very showy in full bloom.

A wet day spent mostly indoors.  A trip to the builders merchants yielded a door for the bathroom and new sliding door kit after the old door was inadvertently scrapped by the house clearance guy employed to empty the place earlier this year.  Later another trip out - two in one day!!! - led to a long catch up with a longstanding friend.  Nice.
